Junior Student Leadership Class for Physical Education
This is a semester course for students who have an “A” or “B” in physical education, and a teacher recommendation for leadership potential. The purpose of the course is to train students to be student leaders in the physical education curriculum, and to expose student leaders to career opportunities in the field of physical education, health, the fitness industry and related professions. Students will be taught sports officiating, fitness leadership and exercise cueing, clerical work, and equipment management. Leaders in training will be actively engaged in all areas throughout the semester. The biomechanics of exercise will also be studied, emphasizing the structure and function movement. Students will also participate in fitness testing. After successful completion of the course, students will interview to become student leaders in the physical education department their senior year.
Senior Leadership Class
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Junior Leadership Class
The purpose of the course is to develop students’ leadership skills during their senior year, in the physical education curriculum. This PE course will also expose them to career opportunities in the fields of physical education, health, the fitness industry and related professions. Students will be taught leadership skills, good citizenship skills, sports officiating, and fitness/wellness leadership strategies. Students will be assigned a teacher and lower level class, freshman or sophomore, to be a student leader in that assigned class. Leaders will be actively engaged in all areas of their assigned physical education class.
