DISCOVERY HEALTH
1 CREDIT GRADES: 10 or 11 - 12 1 SEMESTER
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Freshman Health.
This course uses the media to bring current health topics to the classroom so that students may relate them to real life. Types of topics studied are drugs and alcohol, environmental health, diversity, diabetes, eating disorders, AIDS, mental health and more. Types of media used to teach these topics include current movies, TV shows, magazine and newspaper articles, and music. No worksheets or tests are given. Students earn points for their grade by doing bulletin board projects, writing reflective thoughts on the topics, and other alternative assessments. Half of the student's grade is based on participation in class discussions.
